Louis Corbett

Support Leader | Pixel Artist | Indie Game Developer

I'm Louis, a Support Leader and software engineer with over a decade of experience solving problems, building dependable teams and improving the way people experience technology. Outside of work, I channel that same curiosity into indie game development, creating games, systems and pixel art from the ground up.

About Me

A little about my journey and what motivates me...

Pixel art portrait of Louis Corbett

I've spent more than a decade working in software and leading application support teams, solving complex problems, developing people and making technology work better for the people using it. I'm at my best when there's something new to figure out, whether that's an awkward technical problem, improving a system or building something entirely new.

Game development came much later. After receiving the parts to build my first PC, I suddenly had the tools to explore something I'd never really considered accessible to me before. Throw in a COVID lockdown and I had plenty of time to experiment with programming, game engines, 3D modelling and different art styles.

Pixel art was the thing that stuck. Its accessibility drew me in, but I quickly discovered how much depth there was beyond that simple starting point. My work takes a lot of inspiration from Suikoden and Suikoden II, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Stardew Valley and Pokémon. Games I love personally that create memorable characters and worlds.

Since then, that experimentation has grown into creating sprites and animation, taking part in Game Jams and developing my own projects in Unity and C#. I'm still learning and still experimenting, and that's largely the point. I enjoy figuring out how things work and then seeing what I can make with them.

Away from the screen, I'm a dad to three young boys, cat dad, and an enthusiastic musician. Games, music and making things occupy most of my spare time, although with three small children, “spare time” is perhaps a generous description.
